We are living in a hard time! The progress generations have fought for – economic independence, the freedom to choose whom we love, and the right to make our own decisions – is being systematically dismantled.
The President’s attacks on diversity, equity, and inclusion programs in businesses and colleges are limiting women’s access to high-paying jobs, jeopardizing financial independence, and restricting personal freedoms – including the ability to enter or leave relationships freely. Meanwhile, transgender and LGBTQ+ rights are being stripped away through executive orders.
History teaches us that when the rights of minorities and women are under attack, democracy itself is at risk. Now, more than ever, BC Voices believes it is important to double down on our commitment to preserving and amplifying the stories of American women, from the country’s founding to today, who have faced challenges and driven change in the fight for full equality.
That’s why BC Voices is producing Stand UP, Speak Out: To Marry Whom We Love, or Not at All – Know Your Rights. This powerful 30-minute historical documentary will trace the long struggle for marriage, partnership, and singlehood rights in America – from no rights to marriage, and no rights in marriage, to Loving v. Virginia to Obergefell v. Hodges to the Respect for Marriage Act – showing how women have won, and must continue to defend, the freedom to shape their own lives.
Join us in the fight by helping us raise $75,000 to make this historical documentary a reality. Every dollar you give helps ensure this history – the fight to to marry or remain single; to choose the person you want to marry; to marry someone of a different race, ethnicity, or religion; and to marry someone of the same gender – is preserved and shared. Donate today so future generations will enjoy the same rights we have experienced over the past 50 years.
Know a funding source that might support us, or an organization that might screen our films? Please reach out – we welcome partnerships and support.
We thank you for joining the community of people at BC Voices who are not staying silent, who are deciding now is the time to stand up, speak out, and fight for our future.
Sincerely,
